Verse 13They brought to the Pharisees the man who had formerly been blind. Verse 14Now it was a sabbath day when Jesus made the mud and opened his eyes. Verse 15Then the Pharisees also began to ask him how he had received his sight. He said to them, "He put mud on my eyes. Then I washed, and now I see." Verse 16Some of the Pharisees said, "This man is not from God, for he does not observe the sabbath." But others said, "How can a man who is a sinner perform such signs?" And they were divided. Verse 17So they said again to the blind man, "What do you say about him? It was your eyes he opened." He said, "He is a prophet."
Devotion
The man whose sight was restored became an impromptu witness, declaring Jesus to be a prophet. This was a bold and faithful thing to say to those who were criticizing Jesus. The season of Lent calls us beyond polite and predictable answers and invites us to see the world as God sees it. Is there any aspect of your life that calls for that kind of bold and faithful witness?
Prayer
God of power, in Jesus you have given your people the power to speak boldly about your healing will for this creation. Give me courage in my own life to trust you to guide me to say what I most deeply believe about you. In Christ’s name I pray. Amen.
