“Crucified by Your Grace,” text by Erik Lopez
1 Though you slay me,
I will trust thee
Crucified by your grace!
You bid me come and die,
Offer me new life,
Crucified by your grace!
You bore my sin, my cross, my shame,
Yet I bear your name,
Crucified by your grace!
Chorus<.i>
Justified! Justified! Just if I never sinned
It slays me!
Justified! Justified! Just if I never sinned
It kills me!
Not I who lives, but Christ instead
Crucified by your grace!
2 And I’m a dead man walking,
Silenced all my talking,
Crucified by your grace!
A covered mouth astonished,
of all my sins forgotten,
Crucified by your grace!
Generosity gone wild
Adopted me as the king’s child
Crucified by your grace!
Repeat chorus
Bridge
Who’d ever think the greatest gift a crucifix, dead to sin, alive to Christ is how I live!
Crucified with Christ is where you’ll find me,
Eternal life in Christ is where I wanna be
Crucified by your grace!
3 What is man that you should mind me?
Devising plans so you could find me.
Crucified by your grace!
I enter your throne room lifeless,
To hear you welcome me is priceless.
Crucified by your grace!
Trampled grace may be in outcome,
But to me that’s not an option,
Crucified by your grace!
Repeat chorus
Devotion
“Crucified by grace” – this is a paradox I based a song on and a truth that took a seven-month Babylonian exile, courtesy of the United States Marine Corps, for me to learn.
As we celebrate the Lord’s resurrection, we appreciate the gift of Jesus’ cross and resurrection. This gift is new life in Christ, new life as a child of God. Had Jesus not been raised, as St. Paul put it, “we are of all people most to be pitied” (1 Corinthians 15:19).
But he did, and we who are partakers of his grace face a new reality – all our sin has been forgiven, forgotten and crucified on the cross. Nothing I do could merit this honor. Rather, I am benefactor of a generous Father, who graciously proclaims, “Your sins are forgiven you.” This grace crucifies us with Christ, putting to death our old Adam and giving us a life of sweet communion with our Father.
Prayer
Lord, thank you for crucifying us with grace, and giving us new life. Amen.
