Blessed Assurance, ELW 638
1 Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!
Oh, what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God, born of his Spirit, washed in his blood.
Refrain
This is my story, this is my song, praising my Savior all the day long: this is my story, this is my song, praising my Savior all the day long.
2 Perfect submission, perfect delight, visions of rapture now burst on my sight; angels descending bring from above echoes of mercy, whispers of love.
Refrain
3 Perfect submission, all is at rest;
I in my Savior am happy and blest, watching and waiting, looking above, filled with his goodness, lost in his love.
Refrain
Devotion
With the words “perfect submission, all is at rest,” we are reminded that it is such a blessing that we can give up control in our lives to God. The reminder that we are filled with God’s goodness and are wrapped in his love can bring rest to our weary souls. It is so easy to get caught up with the busyness of life that we miss daily reminders of God. We think that we have all the answers and then we realize that it’s impossible to do it all. God continues to call us, reminding us that we don’t wear a superhero’s cape. Not only can we not save others, we cannot save ourselves.
Prayer
God, interrupt our busyness and our well-planned lives. Help us to realize that you are the power source and we cannot do it all. Humble us to find rest in you. Save us. Amen.
