Verse 1Lord, you have been our dwelling place in all generations.
Verse 2Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.
Verse 3You turn us back to dust, and say, "Turn back, you mortals."
Verse 4For a thousand years in your sight are like yesterday when it is past, or like a watch in the night.
Verse 5You sweep them away; they are like a dream, like grass that is renewed in the morning;
Verse 6in the morning it flourishes and is renewed; in the evening it fades and withers.
Verse 7For we are consumed by your anger; by your wrath we are overwhelmed.
Verse 8You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your countenance.
Devotion
She opened another cupboard, wrapped some more dishes in newspaper and packed them gently. As each drawer and shelf was emptied, the spaces filled with memories of the years they had spent in that house. Her son was grown now, but out of the corner of her eye she swore she could still see the bassinet where he slept when they brought him home from the hospital. She looked out the window and imagined she caught a glimpse of him as a toddler chasing a ball or a butterfly. Instead, all she really saw was a moving truck, and the mountains she loved off in the distance. Soon, those would only be a memory, too.
Where do we find comfort during changes or transitions? Is there anything that stays the same? Is there any place we can always call home?
Prayer
