“Praise God, From Whom All Blessing Flow,” ELW 884 & LBW 564
Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
praise him, all creatures here below;
praise him above, ye heav'nly host;
praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
Devotion
It’s been called the “doxology,” a ringing endorsement of the glory that belongs to God for all that is, and is to come! In many contexts, I have found it to be a lyric that crosses denominational and ecumenical boundaries. Even people not a part of any community of faith may have it planted deep within their memory banks, and out it comes as people sing! And rightly so.
If you’re looking for scriptural support for such a take on the world, read through the Psalms or visit the words of Paul to the early Christian congregations. The glory, majesty, and omnipotence of God scream out! If you don’t locate God’s glory there, simply breathe, or look up into the night sky, or at children playing in the park and meet God there. Oh, the blessings flow all right. And our God who is revealed as Father, Son, and Spirit keeps on giving them!
Prayer
We praise you, O God of our past, our present, and our future. You have lavished us with such blessings, and have given us a beautiful world to enjoy and steward. To you be all honor and glory through what we do and say; lives lived wholly and completely for you. Amen.
