Devotion
Advent offers an opportunity to enter into a fresh relationship with God. Like a text message that interrupts a dull afternoon class or the blaring of a car horn at an intersection, St. Mark uses Isaiah’s cry to awaken us to see and hear the new things being done by God today. The announcement of the messenger’s arrival is more than a historical reference. It is a reminder that God is preparing something new and fresh in this day, too. Where have you seen a sign of God doing something surprising this December?
Prayer
Stir up our hearts, O God, and make us ready to see and hear all that you are doing in our world today. We remember those who are weary and beaten down, those who have grown cynical and those who need to see a fresh sign of God’s grace. In Christ’s name we pray. Amen.
