Devotion
In Psalm 29 the people acknowledge and praise the mighty power and glory of God. As in Genesis, the voice of God thunders over the waters, breaks the cedars, flashes forth in flames of fire, shakes the wilderness, and strips the forest bare. Truly this God is king forever over all the earth. With God’s ancient people we too worship this one who gives us strength to live as God’s beloved creatures, especially in these times of trouble and uncertainty, loss and fear, doubt and suffering. What is amazing is that the mighty God of the whole universe is concerned about each one of us. We know this above all in the coming of Jesus Christ, the Son of God and our Savior.
Prayer
Gracious and mighty Lord, sustain our faith and hope in you even when we are beset by peril and anxiety. Speak to us this day through your Son, Jesus Christ, in whom all things hold together. Send your Spirit to help us trust Jesus’ promise that he will be with us always. We pray in his name. Amen.
