Verse 18Those who believe in him are not condemned; but those who do not believe are condemned already, because they have not believed in the name of the only Son of God. Verse 19And this is the judgment, that the light has come into the world, and people loved darkness rather than light because their deeds were evil.
Devotion
The great festivity of the Christmas season was only weeks ago, yet it can seem as though nothing has changed. As Lenten pilgrims we continue to walk toward that great dawn of Easter, watching for the smallest signs of light and reconciliation in our world. Today we consider our own lives. What do others see in us? Light or darkness? Confident trust in God or sour living as though not even God loved us?
Prayer
God, speaker of truth and bearer of justice, we commend our lives this day to your care and forgiveness. Where we have been harsh with others or indifferent to your ways, forgive us. Where we have been slow to offer words of gratitude or praise, renew us. We remember today all who serve in the military, refugees and those who dare not yet speak of their desire for a new way of living. In Christ’s name we pray. Amen.
