Verse 20For all who do evil hate the light and do not come to the light, so that their deeds may not be exposed. Verse 21But those who do what is true come to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that their deeds have been done in God."
Devotion
One of my friends likes to say, “Friends make the future more possible.” That offers a summary of this chapter in John’s Gospel. By sending Jesus, God was making possible a different kind of future for the world. We take six weeks to travel through Lent so the depth and grace of that reality will come to shine in our own lives with renewed awareness and joy. Who are the friends who speak to you as Jesus once spoke to Nicodemus? What difference have they made in how you live your life today?
Prayer
God, steadfast in loyalty, we thank you for sticking with us through all the seasons of our lives. We have not always desired to live in your ways, so your fidelity comes as a great gift. Help us be steadfast and loyal to those we love. We remember today our friends and our family members, naming them now. In Christ’s name we pray. Amen.
