Crown Him with Many Crowns, v. 3, ELW 855
3 Crown him the Lord of love behold his hands and side, rich wounds, yet visible above, in beauty glorified.
No angles in the sky can fully bear that sight, but downward bend their burning eyes at mysteries so bright.
Devotion
Crown him the Lord of love, behold his hands and side, rich wounds, yet visible above, in beauty glorified. No angels in the sky, can fully bear that sight, but downward bend their burning eyes at mysteries so bright.
I wonder at the angel’s “burning eyes.” What intensity, what energy! It must have taken every ounce of determination within those heavenly beings not to intervene the day Jesus suffered and died. I wonder if we could muster anything close to that energy in our worship, even in our daily living. During a worship opportunity with a group of female prison inmates, I was profoundly touched by the energy of their worship, the passion of their singing and the power of their prayer to Christ the King, their Savior and liberator. The criminal on the cross, or women in prison, are not free by civil standards, but truly are free in Christ.
Prayer
Christ our King, you tend to the free and to the imprisoned with the same mercy, the same grace and the same love. Increase our intensity, energy and passion for worship in our churches and for ministry in our communities. In Jesus' name. Amen
