Chapter 4My point is this: heirs, as long as they are minors, are no better than slaves, though they are the owners of all the property; Verse 2but they remain under guardians and trustees until the date set by the father. Verse 3So with us; while we were minors, we were enslaved to the elemental spirits of the world. Verse 4But when the fullness of time had come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, Verse 5in order to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as children. Verse 6And because you are children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, "Abba! Father!" Verse 7So you are no longer a slave but a child, and if a child then also an heir, through God.
Devotion
As someone who has been a Lutheran her entire life, it is sometimes easy for me to forget how profound God’s unconditional love is in Jesus. Sara Miles, who describes herself as an atheist for most of her life, wrote the book “Jesus Freak,” in which she tells the story of having an experience of God’s love in Holy Communion that totally changed her life. Her heart was transformed and she developed a free-food distribution program in San Francisco. For her, God’s grace makes her work literally bread broken for others. She is a powerful reminder of how truly real God’s love is and the power it has to change lives.
Prayer
May we, Love Incarnate, be your servants, feeding those who are hungry in body, mind and spirit. Amen.
