I Love to Tell the Story, ELW 661
1 I love to tell the story of unseen things above,
of Jesus and his glory, of Jesus and his love.
I love to tell the story, because I know it's true;
it satisfies my longings as nothing else would do.
Refrain
I love to tell the story;
I'll sing this theme in glory
and tell the old, old story
of Jesus and his love.
2 I love to tell the story: how pleasant to repeat
what seems, each time I tell it, more wonderfully sweet!
I love to tell the story, for some have never heard
the message of salvation from God's own holy word.
Refrain
Devotion
A few weeks ago, we noticed how well our congregation sang "I Love to Tell the Story", as the closing hymn in our Sunday morning worship service. The familiarity of the words and tune combined to summon extra energy in singing our praise to God. The refrain points us to the promised hope of eternity with our Lord. It is all because of "Jesus and His love."
Favorite hymns are like favorite places or favorite desserts. Each time we revisit them we find them "wonderfully sweet!" How often we love to return to a favorite vacation spot in the summer or to a beloved home for Christmas! Then there is the new discovery of something that becomes a 'favorite.' I pray that anyone who has not yet heard the message of salvation may discover the joy of Jesus and His love, by receiving Him personally as Lord and Savior.
Prayer
Thank you, Jesus, for the sweet story of Your love and salvation. Amen
