Verse 2But I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with its mother; my soul is like the weaned child that is with me.
Devotion
A smile creeps across my face when I see a toddler clinging tightly to their parent's leg, eyes
half-hidden in clothing folds, and occasionally warily peeping out. Weaned from full dependency on their mother, a toddler eagerly ventures out into the world to experience every new wonder.
However, gleeful joy quickly disappears into fearful cries when they encounter a startling
incident. The tearful toddler hurries back to calm themselves in the safety of the one they most trust, their loving parent.
Likewise, the psalmist humbly trusts the Lord as the source of calm and recognizes this solace is great enough for all. The psalmist calls Israel to find hope forever with their loving Lord. In whom do we trust and receive our hope? Do we call all people to hurry and join us in the solace of our Parent's loving arms? In God, there is forever hope enough for all.
Prayer
Loving Parent, keep us ever mindful that it is in you and you alone we find safety, solace and hope. As we venture out into the world, guide us to be a voice of solace to everyone we meet. Empower our actions to supply comfort beyond our words. Amen.
