“Alleluia, Son of Gladness,” ELW 318, v.1
1 Alleluia, song of gladness, voice of joy that cannot die; alleluia is the anthem ever dear to choirs on high; in the house of God abiding thus they sing eternally.
Devotion
Alleluia! is an ecstatic expression of one's unconfined sense of awe. This one word gives voice to our need to praise, and lifts our eyes to the one who is subject and content of that praise. As our voices of joy ascribe glory and honor to God on High, we join the ancient chorus of the faithful throughout the ages who have caught a glimpse of God, and deemed God worthy.
Though still living lives in the shadows and darkness of this world, we do so as hopeful people who have caught even a glimpse of God's saving activity in the world. Together, let us sing loudly our "Alleluia!" as testimony and light to a world desperately in need of both!
Prayer
For those who dwell in the darkness and walk amidst the shadows of this world, Gracious God, cause your light to shine! In the glory of your presence and activity in and around us, help us to sing boldly of our encounter with you, and guide us in our keeping and living out of faith. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen!
