O Sons and Daughters, Let Us Sing, ELW 386 v. 1, 4, 8
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.
1 O sons and daughters, let us sing with heav'nly hosts to Christ our king: today the grave has lost its sting!
Alleluia!
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.
4 That night the apostles met in fear; among them came their master dear, and said,
"My peace be with you here."
Alleluia!
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.
8 How blest are they who have not seen, and yet whose faith has constant been, for they eternal life shall win.
Alleluia!
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.
Devotion
This French Easter carol has been a favorite of mine as it retells the story of the risen Lord's appearances to the disciples.
It contains no intellectual defense of the Resurrection. It simply retells the story, that story that is still so much like our own. Like the women on the first Easter, we are not expecting life but only to see the evidence of death. Like the apostles who on that first Easter night "met in fear; among them came their master dear, and said 'My peace be with you here.'" Alleluia.
The eighth stanza speaks to us today: "How blest are they who have not seen, and yet whose faith has constant been, for they eternal life will win. Alleluia!"
Prayer
Lord, belief in death and destruction is easy, especially if we keep up with the news. It is easy and natural to for us to fear. Thank you for not judging our unbelief and instead offering your peace. Christ is Risen!
Alleluia. Alleluia.
Alleluia. Amen.
