John 7:37-39 (NRSV)
Read John 7:37-39 on biblegateway.com
Verse 37On the last day of the festival, the great day, while Jesus was standing there, he cried out, "Let anyone who is thirsty come to me, Verse 38and let the one who believes in me drink. As the scripture has said, 'Out of the believer's heart shall flow rivers of living water.'" Verse 39Now he said this about the Spirit, which believers in him were to receive; for as yet there was no Spirit, because Jesus was not yet glorified.
Devotion
Driving East on the Interstate, I saw the words on the billboard. They invited me to: "Sip. Savor. Repeat."
Hmm. Could they possibly be an invitation from Jesus? "Thirsty? Come to me. Believe in me and drink." Five loaves and two fish feed five thousand as much as they wanted, with twelve baskets of leftovers. The woman of Samaria is a witness to Jesus, who gives living water gushing up to eternal life. Having received the true water of life and Christ's Spirit, we too join her and other believers in carrying this life to others. Come and see. Taste and see that the Lord is good. Sip. Savor. "From his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace."
On the very next billboard, I saw these words: "Be Grateful."
Prayer
O God, fill my cup and let it overflow with love. Amen.
