“Come, Holy Ghost, God and Lord,” ELW 395, v. 1
1 Come, Holy Ghost, God and Lord,
with all your graces now outpoured
on each believer's mind and heart;
your fervent love to them impart.
Lord, by the brightness of your light
in holy faith your church unite;
from ev'ry land and ev'ry tongue,
this to your praise, O Lord, our God, be sung.
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Devotion
"Lord, by the brightness of your light, in holy faith your church unite; from ev'ry land and ev'ry tongue, this to your praise, O Lord, our God, be sung: Alleluia! Alleluia!"
The words from the last half of verse one now include, for me, those I worshiped with in Central African Republic. I was unable to understand the meaning of the words they were singing without the help of a translator. However, a translator wasn't needed in order for me to know that we were united in our faith. The light of Jesus Christ was shining brightly in their faces as they sang songs of praise. In every land and every tongue, I'd recognize an Alleluia!
Praise to the Lord for "graces now outpoured on each believer's mind and heart" wherever they may live.
Prayer
O God, thank you for brothers and sisters in Christ around the world. Unite our voices in prayer, praise and thanksgiving. Amen.
