Verse 16Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. Verse 17When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. Verse 18And Jesus came and said to them, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Verse 19Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Verse 20and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age."
Devotion
Where have you met with Jesus? Some people claim that they have just known they were in the presence of Jesus at events where there were large crowds and vibrant worship. As the adrenaline swept across the room, or through the auditorium or stadium, they just knew that Jesus was in that place with them. They just knew they were in the presence of the risen Christ. Other people have felt like they met Jesus in a still, quiet room. As they sat by themselves in silence, they were overcome with His presence. They couldn't explain how it happened or what it felt like, but they can tell you that they just knew Jesus was there. For both of these groups of people, these were their mountaintop experiences. These are the places where Jesus told them to go because He was going to meet them and speak to them in these places. We all have different types of mountaintop experiences. We all meet and listen to God in different ways. It does not matter how things happen for us. What matters is that we know deep inside ourselves that we are in the presence of Christ, and we are hearing Jesus speak to us as our dearest and closest friend.
Prayer
Ever-present God, you call us to come and to meet you in many and various ways and in many different places. Help us to hear your voice and come to see all that you have to say to us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
