Devotion
... and whoever gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones in the name of a disciple-truly I tell you, none of these will lose their reward.
How you feel about that cup of cold water is largely a matter of perspective. In Fargo, N.D., where we have experienced three record-breaking floods in a row, we seldom hanker after water. In this nation of plenty, we tend to take the availability of cold, clear water from the tap on demand very much for granted. Yet, water is essential for life. And even a cup of cold water to one who is desperately thirsty can be life-giving or life-saving.
Untold millions on our planet are imperiled daily by the lack of clean water. Untold thousands die every year because their water supply is inadequate or impure. As disciples of Christ, can we not find the will to ensure that all God's children have access to clean water?
Prayer
Dear God, you call us to care for all your little ones. Forgive our selfishness and our blindness to the needs of others. Create in us a spirit of compassion that we may reach out and provide all that is needful in your name. We pray all this in the name of your dear Son. Amen.
