Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing, ELW 807
1 Come, thou Fount of ev'ry blessing,
Tune my heart to sing thy grace;
Streams of mercy, never ceasing,
Call for songs of loudest praise.
While the hope of endless glory
Fills my heart with joy and love,
Teach me ever to adore thee;
May I still they goodness prove.
2 Here I raise my Ebenezer,
Hither by thy help I'm come;
And I hope, by thy good pleasure,
Safely to arrive at home.
Jesus sought me when a stranger,
Wand'ring from the fold of God;
He, to rescue me from danger,
Interposed his precious blood.
3 Oh, to grace how great a debtor
Daily I'm constrained to be;
Let that grace now like a fetter
Bind my wand'ring heart to thee.
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it;
Prone to leave the God I love.
Here's my heart, oh, take and seal it;
Seal it for thy courts above.
Devotion
Our week of reading and discovering God's merciful abundance for all people culminates in songs of praise and thanksgiving because we know that we are included in God's promise of grace and mercy. God's unceasing gifts of grace and forgiveness should bring out in us not only loud songs of praise but also unending hope that through the power of the Holy Spirit and our willingness to serve, God's goodness will be proved to all creation.
Every blessing, act of mercy and gift given in love flow endlessly, one after another. There is no catch, secret words or limits that apply to our receiving these gifts. There is only the will and desire to pass them on to those around us and throughout the world. These are not gifts we keep hidden away so they stay safe or clean. These are gifts to be used up, worn out and made messy with all the passing around. The funny thing with these gifts is there always seems to be more.
Prayer
Mighty Spirit, blow strong on us this day. Fill us with energy to praise God with our voices and our hands and our feet and all that we are. Fill us with excitement for the work God has given us, work that will give glory to God and peace to God's people. Work in us a blessing to others. Amen.
