What Wondrous Love Is This, LBW 385
1 What wondrous love is this,
O my soul,
O my soul!
What wondrous love is this,
O my soul!
What wondrous love is this
That caused the Lord of bliss
To bear the dreadful curse for my soul, for my soul,
To bear the dreadful curse for my soul?
2 When I was sinking down, sinking down, sinking down,
When I was sinking down, sinking, sinking down,
When I was sinking down
Beneath God's righteous frown,
Christ laid aside his crown for my soul,
for my soul,
Christ laid aside his crown for my soul.
3 To God and to the Lamb
I will sing,
I will sing;
To God and to the Lamb
I will sing;
To God and to the Lamb,
Who is the great I Am,
While millions join the theme,
I will sing,
I will sing,
While millions join the theme,
I will sing
4 And when from death I'm free,
I'll sing on,
I'll sing on;
And when from death I'm free,
I'll sing on;
And when from death I'm free,
I'll sing his love for me,
And through eternity
I'll sing on,
I'll sing on;
And through eternity
I'll sing on.
Devotion
After a week at Bible camp, I have been renewed in spirit. The amazing gift of love that this hymn talks about has once again broken through my weary soul and refreshed my faith. Sometimes it is easy to go through our daily lives without thinking about Jesus and the gifts that he has given us through the cross and resurrection. When we are sinking down in the midst of crisis and loss it is easy to get stuck or mired down and to lose focus on the tremendous life we have been given. Daily, almost hourly, in this last week of camp I have been reminded of the wondrous gift of God's love. I have also been given the reminder, through counselors and campers alike, of the importance of rejoicing and being free to sing of His wondrous love. Give God the praise and the glory forever and ever. Amen.
Prayer
Most precious and loving Savior, I give you praise and glory for the gifts that you have freely given as you laid aside your crown for my soul. Help me to sing on from now and to eternity of your wondrous love. Amen.
