Just A Closer Walk With Thee, ELW 697
Refrain
Just a closer walk with thee, grant it, Jesus, is my plea; daily walking close to thee, let it be, dear Lord, let it be.
1 I am weak but thou art strong:
Jesus, keep me from all wrong;
I'll be satisfied as long as I walk, let me walk close to thee.
Refrain
2 Through this world of toil and snares, if I falter, Lord, who cares?
Who with me my burden shares?
None but thee, dear Lord, none but thee.
Refrain
3 When my feeble life is o'er, time for me will be no more; guide me gently, safely o'er to thy kingdom shore, to thy shore.

Devotion
My granddaughter and I have a Saturday routine that is kind of sacred. We start the day with pancakes, then after breakfast we head off for a swim-the pool in winter, the lake in summer. Although I know the day will come when Nana's company won't be so captivating, these Saturday moments are a valuable investment in her future. Week after week I watch this three-year old grow in confidence and coordination. Every week she needs my help a little less-and that is a good thing, I remind myself. I pray, "just help me to stay in tune and in touch with this precious child, Lord-that is my plea."
As God's child, I realize God's Spirit also pleads for me to stay in touch, to walk close. I am thankful that Jesus takes the initiative and doesn't wait for me to realize I need his help. And I am mindful that time in prayer and worship is a valuable investment in a precious relationship with my Lord.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, so often I strike out on my own, forgetting to walk with you in my everyday moments. When I have been away from you too long, send your Spirit in search of my heart, and then bring me to find joy in your presence. Amen.
