Verse 2but their delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law they meditate day and night.
Devotion
I've been around long enough to recognize people who sit at the center of their own universe from 100 paces. Granted, we are all that guy occasionally, but to live in that world would certainly not be a blessing.
Hoi polloi brings no blessing along with it. Rather, living large in the herd can be seen in hearing bad counsel, the wrong roads traveled, or the worldview of your own navel found interesting and exciting.
The blessing is in living lives with our compass pointing to God and the law (Mitzvah) acting as theological bumper guards on our path. Yeah, we will occasionally jump the bowling lane gutter, but Jesus is our ball return.
Every day, we awake to the new freedom that Christ has given us by His blood. We can use these to look at our own bellybuttons or we can trust God in all facets of our lives and ache for better for ourselves and our world.
And then maybe do something about it, too.
Prayer
Creator God, we turn inward on ourselves far too often, blocking out the light you would have us live under. Please touch us with your grace so we can open up to your law and to the blessing that it offers. In Christ’s name we pray. Amen.
