Verse 24Then comes the end, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father, after he has destroyed every ruler and every authority and power. Verse 25For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. Verse 26The last enemy to be destroyed is death.
Devotion
When we die, life goes on. But, it will not go on forever. According to the second law of thermodynamics, the universe will undergo a heat death. All the heat will dissipate, leaving subatomic particles in a state of equilibrium. No action. All will be still. We die. So does life itself die. Yet, the Bible says God does not die. God is everlasting. And, further, God promises a new and everlasting creation. We are invited to be part of it. The door is resurrection. At Christmas we celebrate God's previous coming in the manger, while during Advent we celebrate our promised rebirth in God's new world. Does this mean the future comes before the past?
Prayer
God of new life, turn our attention toward the true life you have in store for us. When our hour of death nears, sustain us with hope. Amen.
