Lord, Speak to Me That I May Speak, ELW 676
1 Lord, speak to us, that we may speak
In living echoes of your tone;
As you have sought, so let us seek
Your straying children, lost and lone.
2 Oh, lead us, Lord, that we may lead
The wand'ring and the wav'ring feet;
Oh, feed us, Lord, that we may feed
Your hung'ring ones with manna sweet.
3 Oh, teach us, Lord, that we may teach
The precious truths which you impart;
And wing our words, that they may reach
The hidden depths of many-a heart.
4 Oh, fill us with your fullness, Lord,
Until our very hearts o'erflow
In kindling thought and glowing word,
Your love to tell, your praise to show.
Devotion
The voice of God speaks with power, majesty, righteousness, truth and authority. Above all, the voice of God is a loving, patient word that refreshes my soul and fills me with a desire to share the good news. God speaks to me so that I may speak words of hope to others who need this grace. In my prayers, I ask God to keep me alert for the ministry moments of the day. When I am willing to be used by the Lord for his work, there are many unplanned opportunities where the words God has given me make a difference for good in another's life. Frances R. Havergal wrote this hymn in England in the early 1900's. She used her voice to encourage lay helpers in the church. May this beautiful poetry be a prayer that God will speak, lead, teach, fill and use us to reach the world.
Prayer
Lord of love, open my eyes to ministry moments today. Fill me with your compassion for the lonely and teach me your precious promises of hope. To You be glory and praise. Amen.
