Verse 13When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth; for he will not speak on his own, but will speak whatever he hears, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.
Devotion
When the spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth ...
The disciples did not have much to say in John 15 and 16. When Jesus asked them a question, he answered it himself. (16:5) After all, in a few hours he would be crucified. They knew, they sensed, what was ahead for Jesus. Suffering and death would prevail. So Jesus tells them what they lack and he tells them that the world is wrong.
In the face of loss and grief, we do not have much to say either. We are silent, stumped for words. Jesus speaks words of comfort. "I will guide you," he says. The spirit of truth fills us with life anew. The future belongs to God.
Prayer
Risen Lord Jesus, when we do not have answers, when we do not know how to pray, speak your good word to us. Fill us with life anew. We pray in power of your name. Amen.
