“Let Us Break Bread Together,” ELW 471
1 Let us break bread together on our knees;
Let us break bread together on our knees.

When I fall on my knees,
With my face to the rising sun,
O Lord, have mercy on me.
2 Let us drink wine together on our knees;
Let us drink wine together on our knees.

3 Let us praise God together on our knees;
Let us praise God together on our knees.

Devotion
The breaking of bread and drinking of wine together with the body of Christ is one of the most meaningful parts of worship for me. For me, and I think for many, this celebration of Holy Communion reminds us ultimately that our hope is in the gift that Jesus Christ gives to us from the bounty of his love and his life.
The hope does not end there, though. It continues with the promise that this is a feast for the whole body of Christ, for the masses, for the company of saints and, together, all of us take part in breaking this bread. Better yet, all of us come the same way. One foot in front of the other, hands open in front of us to receive the touchable reminder of the gift that changes everything.
Together, we break bread. Together, we are fed. Together, we are the body of Christ called to let the smell of bread and wine on our breath serve as a reminder to all we meet that this Christ is for them, too.
Prayer
Life-giving Lord, you call us all to come to you and to be fed by you. Fill us, feed us, on your holy bread and wine for the work you send us to do. Amen.
