Word of God, Come Down to Earth, ELW 510
Devotion
On a recent trip to the big island of Hawaii, my wife and I, within three hours' time, drove from the dry lava fields of the west side to the rain forests on the east side. Encapsulated within that one island are eleven of thirteen climate zones each with its own unique ecosystem.
Hawaii's diverse ecology is a great example of our lives. There may be places where we feel spiritually dry and other places where we experience the living rain descending abundantly. Regardless, our spiritual growth depends on the gracious living rain "from heav'n descending" to touch our hearts and grow our faith.
The guidance, encouragement and challenge we receive from God's Word strengthens our commitment to Christ and "sets our minds on things that are above" (Colossians 3:2). May our hearts continually thirst for the Word of God.
Prayer
God of life, refresh our thirsty souls continually with your grace. May we drink deeply from your Word and once refreshed, seek to be a blessing to others as you are to us.
